The Survival & Early Childhood Global Resource Curriculum (GRC) contains 23 Home Visit lessons for Toddlers and their caregivers. These lessons continue targeting the developmental trajectory of a child in all areas: physical, socio-emotional, cognitive and spiritual. In this set of lessons, we help a mom work through her spiritual journey, learn how to pray with her child, reiterate the importance of her church and community and think about income-generation and long-term family provision. With the child, we focus on positive interaction with others, self-expression, toilet training, fine motor skills, language and literacy development, nutrition needs and diet changes. At this point in a child’s development, they are nearing pre-school age and the foundation is being laid for future success in school and beyond.
Home Visit lesson plans generally contain learning objectives, a materials list and directions for preparation. Each lesson includes a brief mental and physical health check, reflection time to review the previous lesson, spiritual mentoring, learning activities, developmental activities, learning reflection time, an action plan and/or homework, and a closing prayer.
Note: The language in these lessons primarily references mothers as the caregiver. However, the content applies to any primary caregiver – father, grandmother, guardian, etc. Feel free to tweak the language to fit your context as appropriate.
