The lesson “I Can Take Care of My Nose” is part two of a 42 part series about the human body and its parts, health, and safety. In this lesson, students learn about their sense of smell, as well as the role that the nose plays in spreading germs. Students are taught to wash their hands after touching the nose, and what to do in case of a bloody nose. This resource includes a lesson plan for the teacher on how to prepare beforehand, class-time content to facilitate learning about the nose and sense of smell, hands-on activities facilitate further learning, and a teacher assessment at the end. This lesson is designed for a group of young children between the ages of 3 and 5, and is the second physical development lesson in the Core Curriculum, 3-5 years, Year One.
